I guess my “green awakening” started a little over a year ago. I started throwing my life around because I felt like I wasn’t making a real change in the world, in my job and my day to day life. But I didn’t know what to do, where to go or where to start.
Like I shared a little while back, one thing I decided to do, was finally plan my trip to Sri Lanka. But I knew that I couldn’t just sit and wait around for that trip to happen. So I started reading and, like any respected millennial, watching Netflix documentaries on anything that I felt could help me further.
I have always been attracted by things that, well, have the potential to be shared on Instagram with #Fairtrade, #eco-friendly or #crueltyfree. So it didn’t take long until Netflix directed me to the documentaries about veganism. That changed so much.
Now let me tell you, especially if you aren’t vegan… I was ALWAYS that girl, up until about 6 months ago, that said she could NEVER give up meat. Let alone cheese!! Or milk? Or butter? Hell nah not me… right?
“I was ALWAYS that girl that said she could NEVER give up meat. Let alone cheese!! Or milk? Or butter?”
But something happened. I realized eating meat and cheese isn’t just about killing animals. It isn’t something you only do if you’re an obnoxious hippie who just wants to be controversial. I started realizing it’s about the environment. It’s about the hypocrisy between how we treat a dog and how we treat a pig. It’s about the lack of care where our products (not just food) come from. It’s about our health and about consciousness.
And here is the beauty of all of this, to me I realized it wasn’t just about food. I had my “green awakening” overall.
Because shortly after my trip to Sri Lanka and having decided to start this brand, I realized even more it’s about living conscious, not just with what you eat, but everything you consume and do in general. Especially after having seen exactly where our products come from and what a difference Fairtrade can make.
So yes, I am mainly eating vegan right now and I guess this journey started out with food, but I also realize everything is connected to eachother.
With Pretty ECO I want to share “greener” alternatives and a better story behind your products and inspire you to have your own green awakening. Because trust me, it’s pretty cool.
