If you bought or received a product from us you might be wondering why some of them are wrapped in plastic…
Honestly, we don’t love plastic and we try to avoid using it as much as we can. We always ask our suppliers to use as little plastic as possible and check with them what possible alternatives could be.
That being said, please be aware that our Fairtrade producers are based in developing countries where they do not always have access to greener alternatives than plastic. The truth is that, unfortunately, in these countries they aren’t as aware of the harm that plastic can cause to the environment due to lack of information. And the people that are aware don’t have the same opportunities as we in the West do have.
However since our suppliers do get the Fairtrade certification, this proves that they are trying the best they can. For example our notebooks are wrapped in plastic to ensure best protection and for them to stay dry and not break during transport… but the plastic used is consciously not made out of PVC (one of the most damaging plastics for the environment).
We try to be as eco-conscious as possible and always choose the most sustainable option when we can. We also recycle as much as possible and always choose cardboard and paper over plastic when we can. But we are also rather honest with you and show you the whole story by sending the product with the plastic instead of taking it off and re-wrapping it with an eco-friendly option just to keep up appearances. If you do receive a product that is wrapped in plastic please recycle and separate your waste if you can.
We (including our wonderful Fairtrade suppliers) are always open for suggestion though! So if you have great ideas to share about this please send us an email at hi@prettyeco.com.
