Ah it’s Sunday, summer’s pretty much over and you know what that means? It’s time for Netflix (and some chill maybe). I’ve picked out 5 Netflix documentaries that I think every one of Pretty ECO’s followers/readers/customers should watch. Because they are all related in some way about making the world a little better. Some of these actually changed my life in some ways. Have fun and enjoy your weekend!
Cowspiracy
This documentary portraits how big the meat and dairy industry really is and what kinds of effects these have on our environment. The facts presented in this documentary were quite shocking to me and might have actually been the base of what lead me to veganism and realizing that our consumer choices have such a big impact. Even if only half of what is presented in this movie is true, it’s still so huge. If you’re interested in becoming vegan OR you’re a huge critic of veganism; I’d definitely recommend you watching this. It might surprise you a lot.
MINIMALISM
I adore this documentary and actually watched it twice! And let me start of by saying I am definitely not a minimalist at this point but this documentary definitely made me think about consumerism. When I first watched the movie about 2 years ago, the first 30 minutes I thought to myself that these guys were just kind of sad. Their house was empty and they weren’t booking any success. But slowly I started to realize they made such good points about the way we treat stuff and I now apply so many of their principles into my daily life. Watching this is a great way to start of your journey into decluttering and making conscious consumer choices!
Before the flood
Honestly, this one is a bit of a downer, but still a very good watch. The documentary follows Leonardo DiCaprio as he travels the world to figure out how badly the damage is that we have done to our planet. And spoiler alert: it’s not good. To see someone as influential as Leonardo DiCaprio so shocked and appalled by this damage is very powerful. Luckily there are some messages of hope incorporated in the documentary, but overall it is a quite a shocking movie that definitely makes you think.
Expedition happiness
After all that negativity from Leo it’s time for a more positive choice on the menu: Expedition happiness. This documentary follows a young couple and their dog who convert an American school bus in the most gorgeous camper I have ever seen. For a year they travel around North- and South-America. Honestly the movie doesn’t have a great plot but it is still one of my favorites on this list! The drone shots are absolutely stunning and the music by Mogli makes the whole film so dreamy. It will definitely make you appreciate the beauty that earth is. Definitely a great Sunday watch!
Forks over knives
I didn’t really love the aesthetics of this documentary buy the message and presented facts are super interesting. The movie explains why eating meat is not only bad for the environment or the animals but mainly for us. Turns out eating the meat that nowadays is available for us is not healthy at all and actually leads to many of the most common deceases.
Did you watch any of these already and what did you think? Or did I really forget to put one on this list? Let me know down below!
